2013/2014 Competition
The Edie Peckham cup is a handicap competition and this year it started out slowly as teams couldn't play or get teams together. Saying that we still had to get past Portsmouth in the semi-final who came second in Division 1 this year.
After a lot of work behind the scenes from Pam and Geoff we managed to get Brookfield school for our match. Everyone played very well and before the opposition knew what was going on we had already gone into a 3-0 lead needing only 2 more games to get into the final. We managed to do this in just under an hour and, in the end, won the match 8-1.
We only had 4 days to regroup and make sure we had a team for the final on Sunday against Matchpoint A from the premier division. Some of the team had to re-arrange their plans for this match so thanks to all, and their families, who allowed us to field our strongest team of Paul, Pam, Steve, Jane, Dave and Claire.
We managed to get through the first round of matches, up by 2-1, but then things took a turn for the worse in the second round when we came out of it at 3-3. Dave had picked up an injury but in the final round of matches Dave was paired with Claire against the first pairing of the opposition so it wasn't looking good. We needed 2 out of the last 3 matches to win the cup. Steve and Jane won their third match quite comfortably with Dave and Claire putting up a great showing but not quite managing to win their match which left the competition drawn at 4-4. This left Paul and Pam to play the last match with the rest of the team watching. The match was level at 1-1 going into the final game which, incidently, Paul and Pam had made a habit of during the final. It was all to play for and our first pairing came through winning by 2-1 making Brookfield the Eddie Peckham Cup Winners.
2012/2013 Competition
The Southampton team represented Brookfield this season and beat Matchpoint B 6-3 in the quarter final going out to last year’s winners (St Denys) in the semi-final. Thanks to Steve G who stepped in for injured Adrian.

2011/2012 Competition
Congratulations to Brookfield for getting to the Finals of the Eddie Peckham Cup having beaten Fleming Park and BTC. The format was all mixed games and so the team consisted of Pam, Paul, Jane, Steve, Claire & Dave B. The final was played in very humid conditions and we put up a brave fight with the majority of games going to 3. St Denys won by 5 rubbers to 4 (13 games to 12) and fielded England ranked players (best rankings of 16,19,33 & 47). A special well done goes to Paul and Pam who won all 3 of their matches. |
